Abstract
Chronic myelomoncytic leukemia(CMML) is a subtype of myelodysplastic syndrome characterized by an absolute monocytosis often associated with an increase in mature granulocytes with varying degree of dyshematopoietic features according to the FAB
classification Unlike the majority of CMML in adults, CMML in children runs an aggressive clinical course and rapidly transforms to acute leukemia but CMML in the age group less than 6 months old has relatively good prognosis. Only one case of
CMML
in
that group has been reported in Korea. Recently, we experienced a case of CMML in a six month old infant with prominent monocytosis. Peripheral blood revealed leukocytosis with absolute monocytosis and presence of blasts(3%). Bone marrow showed
predominance of monocytic cells and increased blasts(7.3%) and reticulin fibers. We also observed diffuse infiltration of monocytic cells in subcutaneous nodule in scalp and normal karyotype on the cytogenetic analysis. We report a case of CMML
associated with myclofibrosis with a brief review of the related literature(Korean J Clin Pathol 1995;15(4) : 526~36).
